Dr. Sherrie L. Jeffries grew up reading books in Jonesville, SC. She watched her grandmother Mama Willie read the newspaper daily, her mother Lillian read the Bible, and her older brother Ben read comic books. Sherrie enjoyed frequent trips to the Union Carnegie Library to check out as many books as possible. Her favorite childhood character was Cassie Logan from Mildred Taylor’s series about the Logan family. As an adult, Sherrie continues to be a lover of books that span many genres.
Sherrie is a product of Head Start, Jonesville Elementary School, & Jonesville High School. She is a two-time graduate of Furman University with a BA in Elementary Ed & a MA in Literacy. She holds an EdD in Professional Leadership from Converse University & a certfication in Family Engagement in Education from HarvardX. Sherrie is a veteran Early Literacy Specialist in a South Carolina public school. Sherrie enjoys spending the entire school day teaching children to be better readers and inspiring them to love books.
Through her grant-seeking 501c3 organization, James E. Vaughn Foundation, Sherrie hosts family engagement events in the community with the goal of increasing parents' knowledge of academic best practices they can use to help their children have a solid foundation for learning at school.
In addition to enjoying reading, Dr. Jeffries loves vacationing at the beach, crafting, and using her many gifts at her church.
