BOOK SUMMARY
Shadé, a 2nd grader, wears a hood on her head every day at Serene Elementary School--inside & outside the building and in class. No matter how many times teachers tell her to remove the hood, she refuses, getting into lots of trouble. The adults all think she’s being disrespectful, but no one knows the real reason Shadé won’t remove the hood. Underneath it hides a great source of embarrassment and pain. As the days & weeks go by, a compassionate teacher Mrs. Tress notices Shadé’s defiance isn’t just about breaking rules. Mrs. Tress’ patience and understanding encourages Shadé to open up, revealing a story of insecurity, resilience, and the power of kindness.
